Texas Mixed Martial Arts

With the explosion in popularity of mixed martial arts also known as MMA in America and around the world the Texas MMA scene has also seen an increase in size and popularity. There seems to be a new Jujitsu or mixed martial arts school opening up every week in Texas. Fighting organizations have also been popping up across Texas allowing fans to get to see this exciting sport in real life instead of just on TV.

The Texas MMA schools have really just started to open in the last couple of years. There are two MFS or miletich fighting system schools in Texas, one in Houston and one in Austin. The one in Austin has one of the largest schools in the country. The one in Houston has an ex UFC fighter as its instructor. There is also an XFC training center in Austin also known as the Grapplers Domain that has produced a number of local MMA fighters. One of the older gyms in Texas is the Lion’s Den in Dallas that produced fighters like Ken Shamrock and Guy Mezger.

The Texas MMA fighting organizations have a long way to go before they really get recognized but they have made some big improvements over the last year or so. The Texas armature mixed martial art association has been putting on fights on a regular basis in the Dallas and San Antonio area. This has given a lot of fighters in Texas the ability to get some experience before turning pro that they really couldn’t get in the past. Unfortunately there haven’t been any real major pro fighting organizations in Texas. There are a number of local organizations like King of Kombat it Austin, but so far that hasn’t been any large ones putting on shows all over Texas to help market the Texas pro fighters to that next level.
